FOUND: YET ANOTHER FLAW IN MY EGO!
Nothing has motivated me more to hurry up and put on my makeup right out of my morning shower…..as Facetiming. I used to languish about until noon with nothing on my well-scrubbed face but moisturizer……plus I would rarely attempt to fix my hair. You see, if I “comb” my hair like normal people do, I would look like one of those weeds you blow on to watch all the darling little parts fly away. Very frizzy.
But now….scary words…..”but now” there’s Facetiming. Wasn’t having to come up with a decent Profile photo of yourself enough anguish to deal with in our technologically advanced world? Sidebar: I always put a recent photo of myself on my Profile photo, just in case I run into a Facebook friend in real life. I don’t want her to be too startled about how I’ve aged.
Back to Facetiming. To keep this blog somewhat helpful on the spiritual side, I’ll mention the most famous role-model of all time….the Proberbs 31 woman. To be totally transparent, a popular word today…transparent, I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with her. Can any woman be that wonderful? That accomplished? That successful? That busy? I have to tell myself the answer must be “Yes, of course. It’s God’s Word.” And seriously, I believe what our Lord says and will do my best, with His help to develop more of her qualities.
However, in defense of myself, she didn’t have to contend with Facetiming, or all the other demanding technological milestones as we 21st century women do. Right?
But here’s the real problem: We are blessed with the most beautiful, wonderful, accomplished, active family of children, grand-children, and now a gorgeous little curly-headed great-granddaughter……and I want to hear their voices, to know everything going on in their lives; I want to see them up close, and want to hear their news. So I’ll continue to Facetime with them……even if I point my phone to Tomboy Cat so he is all they see. He’s much cuter.
I know what a lot of you are thinking: “Adele there are ways to solve this problem.” But they require more time learning complicated technology and I’m much too busy “…trying to be far more than rubies” (Proverbs 31:10b) and “..working eagerly with my hands.” (Proverbs 31:13).
Now you know! All this wisdom came to me this morning when I sat down in my office to begin my daily busy-ness, and realized I was in eminent danger of Facetiming and rushed to my make-up place.
Facetiming is not going away….and I’m certainly happy about that.
‘Til He Shouts!
You’re exactly right! I’m like you…..I can’t go anywhere without makeup and hair being “just so!” (Well, I do kind of let the makeup go sometimes but the HAIR still has to be perfect.) And let’s face it, it’s not always perfect. So I don’t “FaceTime.” I don’t think it’s necessary anyway….and It’s just more stress than I can bear. LOL!
Thanks, Becky, for reading and commenting. At times I like the way my wayward hair looks and have David hurry to take a photo (you know…..staying up-to-date on my Profile photo). But something terrible happens between my hair and the click of his iPhone camera and Facetiming….my hair goes almost totally flat on top, my eyes get tiny, my cheekbones look like I’m a close kin to Geronimo, and I gain 8.5 lbs. all in my cheeks. DELETE, quick. I’ve often said that’s why I prefer illustration to photography.
That’s EXACTLY right, Adele!! I’m with you!
Thanks for the comment, Becky. I always appreciate your opinions. Yesterday, we had a great time Facetiming with our Great-Granddaughter, and Granddaughter. I think I’m getting the hang of how to do it best….lighting, etc. Of course, they are so adorable and the baby actually asked her mother to “Call LaLa”…..(I’m LaLa). I was flattered. Thanks again.
Well, my dearest mother, I will remind you of what you always told me, “get up, get yourself ready because you never know what the day holds”. I always remember that driving me crazy until one very early Saturday morning, a young boy that I had a crush on, showed up at our house and thankfully (yes, thank you indeed mother) I was READY!!!! Such great advice from my Proverbs 13 woman 💕💕
Ha! Ha! Yes, I remember that morning, too,and how happy I was you had taken my advice. Fun times to remember, sweet daughter!
I can totally relate to this! I never go anywhere without makeup!! LOL
Enjoyed this! Have a wonderful and blessed day! ❤️
I knew we are kindred spirits, Melanie. I used to say I wouldn’t even take the trash out until I had my make-up on. My slide to carelessness began when I got into the habit of putting off the make-up until my moisturizer dried. Bad idea! Thanks for reading my silliness and commenting, friend.
We love her gorgeous, curly hair. She gets it from you!
Wow, Julie, that is a wonderful thing to say. I’m smiling!!!!! Her Grandpa Keith had very curly hair when he was a baby.
you are too funny. I am almost at point (especially in the summer) where no makeup except to go to church. I really don’t want to scare people there! Face timing/SKYPE is one of those wonderful things about technology. I am thankful God gave someone the brains to invent such a thing. We just finished visiting with our son in Austin exactly that way. He doesn’t mind I don’t have on makeup since he doesn’t either. Facetiming makes you feel so much closer, warts and all.
Yes, Kathy, I truly appreciate all our technology…Facetiming, texting, email, Facebook….all of it. Keeping up with you and your growing family would be very difficult without these tech blessings. I still haven’t forgiven you for moving away…maybe a little.
That is really our current reality! More power to you, Adele! I just do phone and texting right now. Maybe someday… God bless you!
Yes, Alison, it is our current reality. And we should consider ourselves blessed in it. Thank goodness it’s so easy to keep in touch with you.
